SWAT: At least 15 people, including six police personnel, were martyred in a devastating suicide bombing outside the Kabal Police Station in Swat on Sunday, officials confirmed. The attack also left several others injured, prompting a large-scale emergency response and security operation in the area.
According to senior police officials, the suspected suicide bomber attempted to enter the Kabal Police Station but was intercepted by officers stationed at the main entrance. When security personnel stopped him from advancing, the attacker detonated the explosive device near the station’s gate, causing a powerful blast that claimed multiple lives and injured several bystanders.
Malakand Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Fida Hussain said the alertness and bravery of the police officers prevented the attacker from entering the police station, which could have resulted in even greater devastation.
District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Omar said the explosion occurred near Kabal Chowk, a busy area close to the police station. Rescue teams, police personnel, and emergency medical services rushed to the site immediately after the blast to evacuate the injured and recover the victims.
Authorities confirmed that a severed human head was recovered from the blast site and is believed to belong to the suspected suicide bomber. Forensic experts have collected evidence from the scene, while investigators are working to determine the identity of the attacker and the group responsible for the assault.
Officials also revealed that a protest by local youths was taking place in the vicinity when the explosion occurred, increasing the number of casualties as several civilians were caught in the blast.
The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals, where an emergency was declared to ensure immediate medical treatment. Medical staff have been placed on high alert as some of the wounded remain in critical condition.
Security forces quickly cordoned off the area following the attack, while bomb disposal squads conducted a thorough search to rule out the presence of any additional explosive devices. Traffic in and around Kabal Chowk was suspended as investigators began collecting evidence.
