SHC seeks Sindh govt report on alleged HIV cases at Karachi public hospital

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the Sindh government to submit a detailed report within two weeks regarding alleged HIV cases linked to a government hospital in Karachi’s SITE Area.

The petition was filed by families of affected children, who alleged that the virus spread due to the reuse of contaminated syringes at the Valika government hospital. They urged the court to order an independent investigation and hold those responsible accountable.

According to the petitioners, nine children have died in connection with the reported incidents. They also claimed that despite repeated complaints, no meaningful action has been taken by the authorities, forcing them to seek judicial intervention.

During the hearing, Justice Adnan Karim said the court would decide the matter strictly according to the law after hearing all parties. He remarked that the courtroom is the proper place for legal proceedings, while public statements can be made elsewhere.

The SHC adjourned the hearing until July 20 and instructed the provincial government to submit its report before the next hearing.

After the proceedings, affected families staged a protest inside the court premises, demanding justice for the victims and strict action against those found responsible for the alleged negligence.
