Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, met with María Fernanda Espinosa, a prominent candidate for the position of United Nations Secretary-General, in Islamabad. The high-level meeting focused heavily on strengthening multilateral cooperation, maintaining global peace and security, and discussing the evolving international landscape. According to a statement released by the Foreign Office, the two dignitaries exchanged detailed views on how to bolster the central role of the UN in addressing pressing global conflicts and humanitarian challenges.
During the dialogue, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, international law, and a rules-based global order. He expressed a strong hope that the next UN Secretary-General would actively champion much-needed institutional reforms within the global body. Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the critical importance of effectively implementing long-standing UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, explicitly highlighting those concerning the conflicts in Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir.
