Pakistan Military Says 42 Killed in Balochistan Violence as Security Forces Launch Crackdown

Pakistan’s military says at least 42 people have been killed in a series of deadly attacks and counter-operations in the southwestern province of Balochistan, marking one of the deadliest outbreaks of violence in recent months.

According to military spokesperson Lieutenant General Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry, the casualties include 18 police officers, 11 soldiers, four civilians, and several armed fighters. He said security forces also killed 54 militants during multiple operations launched across the province.

The violence escalated after armed attackers targeted a security post protecting the Mangi Dam project in Ziarat district. During the assault, 18 police officers were abducted, while nine others were killed at the scene, officials said.

Addressing a televised news conference, Lt Gen Chaudhry vowed that security forces would continue pursuing those responsible for the attacks.

“We will chase you, we will hurt you,” he said, adding that the military would target militants and anyone providing them support or safe havens.

The military spokesperson also alleged that many Afghan nationals were involved in the recent attacks, though no further evidence was publicly presented.

Balochistan has witnessed a surge in violence in recent months, with security forces facing repeated attacks from armed groups operating in the region. Authorities say operations are ongoing to restore security and prevent further incidents.
