Punjab Issues Alert Over ‘Spurious’ Azomax 250mg Antibiotic Capsules

Health authorities have urged pharmacies and the public to stop using the affected batch after it was declared spurious by the provincial drug testing laboratory

The Punjab government has issued a public health alert warning against the use of a batch of Azomax 250mg (Azithromycin) capsules after the provincial drug testing laboratory declared the product “spurious.”

According to health authorities, laboratory testing found that the affected batch failed to meet regulatory standards, prompting officials to advise the public and healthcare providers not to use or distribute the medicine.

The health department has directed pharmacies, distributors, hospitals, and medical stores to immediately stop the sale and supply of the identified batch. Authorities are also taking steps to remove the product from the market to protect public health.

Officials urged patients who have purchased the affected antibiotic to consult a healthcare professional before using it and report any suspected adverse reactions to the relevant health authorities.

The Punjab government said regulatory teams are monitoring the situation and investigating the source of the spurious medicine to prevent further distribution.
