WASHINGTON: Two U.S. service members were killed and another remains missing after Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks targeted American forces in Jordan, according to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). The incident marks a significant escalation in the ongoing confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
CENTCOM said four additional U.S. service members who were injured during the attacks were evacuated to hospitals in Jordan. After receiving medical treatment, they were discharged, while personnel with minor injuries have already returned to active duty.
Military officials have not released the identities of the deceased service members or disclosed the exact location and operational details surrounding the attack.
US Launches Fresh Airstrikes on Iran
In response to the deadly assault, the United States carried out another round of airstrikes against targets in Iran on Saturday night under the direction of President Donald Trump.
According to CENTCOM, the operation marked the eighth consecutive night of U.S. military strikes and was intended to weaken Iran’s capability to threaten international commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The military also stated that the strikes were designed to punish elements of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which Washington says were responsible for launching the attacks against American troops in Jordan.

The latest exchange of military action follows the collapse of a preliminary ceasefire reached less than a month ago between the United States and Iran.

Iran Condemns US Actions
Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei strongly criticized Washington’s latest military operations, accusing the United States of repeatedly violating the ceasefire agreement.
In a written statement, Khamenei said the U.S. had exposed what he described as the lack of credibility of American commitments, arguing that repeated violations had undermined trust in diplomatic agreements.
