ISLAMABAD: Thousands of users in Pakistan and several other countries experienced widespread disruptions on Facebook and Instagram on Sunday, with many unable to log into their accounts or access Meta’s social media platforms.

According to an online outage-tracking website, the disruption affected users across multiple regions, triggering a surge in complaints from people attempting to use the popular social networking services.

Users Report Login Problems

Many users reported that both the Facebook and Instagram mobile applications, as well as their web versions, were inaccessible during the outage.

Instead of accessing their accounts, users were shown an error message stating:

“Your account is temporarily unavailable because of a problem with the site. Please try again later.”

The issue prevented many people from checking their feeds, posting updates, sending messages, or accessing business pages.

Global Disruption Affects Meta Platforms

The outage was not limited to Pakistan, with reports emerging from several countries indicating similar problems on Meta’s platforms.

Users took to other social media platforms to report the disruption, making Facebook outage and Instagram down among the trending topics online.

The outage-tracking service recorded a significant spike in reports within a short period, indicating a widespread technical issue.

Meta Yet to Issue Official Statement

As of the latest reports, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, had not released an official statement explaining the cause of the disruption or providing a timeline for the full restoration of services.

Technical outages affecting Meta platforms occasionally occur due to server issues, software updates, or network-related problems, though the exact reason behind Sunday’s disruption remains unclear.
