LAHORE: The Punjab government has introduced a cashless payment system for its public transport network by launching the eTransit Punjab App and the T-Cash Card, allowing commuters to pay fares digitally on metro and electric bus services.
The initiative, announced by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) on Friday, is a joint project with the Punjab Transport Department and the Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMA). Officials say the new electronic fare collection system is designed to modernize public transport by making travel faster, safer, and more convenient.
Digital Fare Collection Introduced
Under the new system, passengers can travel without carrying cash or purchasing physical tokens. Instead, commuters can use the T-Cash Card or the eTransit Punjab mobile application to pay fares through a single digital platform.
The cashless payment system is expected to simplify boarding, reduce waiting times at stations, and improve the overall commuting experience for thousands of daily passengers using Punjab’s metro and electric bus services.
Officials believe the initiative will also make fare collection more efficient while promoting digital payments across the province’s public transportation network.
Faster and Safer Public Transport
According to PITB, the electronic ticketing system has been developed to eliminate cash handling and speed up passenger movement at bus stations.
By introducing contactless fare payments, authorities aim to reduce congestion, improve operational efficiency, and provide commuters with a secure and hassle-free travel experience.
The digital platform supports both mobile-based payments and rechargeable smart cards, giving passengers multiple options for accessing public transport services.

PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf described the launch as an important step in Punjab’s digital transformation agenda.
He said the introduction of the eTransit Punjab App and T-Cash Card reflects the government’s commitment to using technology to improve public services and deliver modern, transparent, and accessible transportation solutions.
According to Yousaf, PITB will continue implementing innovative digital initiatives that enhance efficiency and make everyday services more convenient for citizens.
The launch forms part of Punjab’s broader strategy to digitize government services and encourage the adoption of cashless transactions across the province.
