RAWALPINDI: A Pakistan Army officer was martyred while leading an intelligence-based operation (IBO) against militants in the Razmak area of North Waziristan, the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said on Saturday.

According to the ISPR, security forces launched the operation after receiving intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the area. During the exchange of fire, troops successfully eliminated five militants affiliated with Fitna al Khawarij, the term used by the Pakistani state for members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Major Hafiz Ihsan Elahi Embraced Martyrdom

The ISPR identified the martyred officer as Major Hafiz Ihsan Elahi, 34, a resident of Mianwali district.

The military described Major Ihsan as a courageous officer who was leading his troops from the front during the operation.

“Major Hafiz Ihsan Elahi was a brave officer who led his troops from the front, fought gallantly, paid the ultimate sacrifice, and embraced martyrdom,” the ISPR said in its statement.

Operation Against Terrorists Continues

The military said the intelligence-based operation was part of ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorist networks operating in the region and maintain peace and stability.

Security forces recovered the area following the operation, while sanitization efforts continued to ensure that no remaining militants were present.

The ISPR reiterated that Pakistan’s security forces remain committed to eliminating terrorism from the country and that the sacrifices of its soldiers further strengthen the nation’s determination to defeat militant groups.

North Waziristan has witnessed several intelligence-based operations in recent years as security forces continue targeting terrorist hideouts and disrupting militant activities in the former tribal districts.
