Bangladesh, India work to rescue six-match cricket series amid diplomatic tensions

DHAKA: Bangladesh is making efforts to save its scheduled six-match cricket tour against India next month, with foreign ministers from both countries involved in discussions to resolve the uncertainty surrounding the series.

The tour consists of three one-day internationals (ODIs) and three T20 matches. It was initially scheduled for August last year but was postponed after relations between Dhaka and New Delhi deteriorated amid political tensions.

Bangladesh Sports Minister Aminul Haque confirmed on Monday that efforts were underway at the ministerial level to find a way forward.

“It is being worked on at the ministerial level,” Haque said, adding that discussions between the foreign ministers of Bangladesh and India were continuing.

The proposed series has remained uncertain as the two neighbouring countries attempt to navigate their strained diplomatic relationship. Officials are now hoping that ongoing talks can clear the way for the cricket tour to proceed as planned.

The outcome of the ministerial discussions is expected to determine whether the six-match series can take place next month.
