RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide discussed regional security, bilateral relations and cooperation to address common security challenges during a meeting at General Headquarters (GHQ) on Thursday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a high-level Norwegian delegation led by Foreign Minister Eide called on Field Marshal Asim Munir at GHQ in Rawalpindi.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, regional security and Pakistan-Norway relations.
Field Marshal Asim Munir outlined Pakistan’s perspective on global peace and regional stability and stressed the importance of stronger international cooperation to address shared security challenges.
The discussions also focused on opportunities to further strengthen cooperation between Pakistan and Norway in areas of mutual interest.
According to ISPR, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide appreciated the professional role of the Pakistan Armed Forces in promoting regional peace and stability.
Both sides reiterated their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation on issues of common concern.
Earlier in Islamabad, Eide praised Pakistan for undertaking what he described as the “massive task” of mediating between the United States and Iran.
Speaking at a joint press conference, the Norwegian foreign minister commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Asim Munir for their diplomatic efforts.
Eide said Pakistan’s efforts to help reduce tensions between Iran and the United States represented an important contribution to international peace.
He acknowledged the difficulty of the mediation process and described Pakistan’s role as a significant responsibility amid the ongoing regional crisis.
The meeting at GHQ came during Eide’s two-day official visit to Pakistan, where he is also holding talks with senior Pakistani officials.
His visit provides an opportunity for Islamabad and Oslo to deepen cooperation in security, trade, investment, climate change, renewable energy, education and regional diplomacy.
The latest high-level engagement reflects efforts by both countries to strengthen their longstanding bilateral relationship while working together on regional and international challenges.
