SUKKUR: The Motorway Police seized a large cache of weapons and more than 18,000 rounds of ammunition from a car on the M-5 Motorway near Rohri, successfully foiling an alleged attempt to transport illegal arms into the interior of Sindh.

According to a Motorway Police spokesperson, two suspects, identified as Ubaidullah and Abdullah, were arrested during the operation. The suspects are residents of Peshawar and Kohat.

Officials said the accused attempted to evade arrest by breaking through three police checking points, but were eventually intercepted and taken into custody.

During the search of the vehicle, police recovered 14 submachine guns (SMGs), 19 pistols of .30 bore, four 9mm pistols, 46 additional SMG magazines, 43 pistol magazines, four telescopic sights, and more than 18,000 rounds of ammunition.

Police said the weapons were allegedly being transported from Peshawar to the interior of Sindh, where they were suspected to be supplied to criminal elements.

Following the operation, the arrested suspects, along with the recovered weapons and ammunition, were handed over to Sukkur Police for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the source of the weapons and identify other individuals who may be involved in the alleged smuggling network.
