Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Balochistan Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail held a critical meeting on Tuesday to address the volatile security situation following a deadly militant attack in the Hanna Urak area. The assault occurred on Sunday evening when heavily armed Taliban militants descended from nearby mountains into Killi Babri, utilizing automatic weapons and rocket launchers. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of four local residents, injuries to several others, and the abduction of multiple locals, triggering immediate national concern and calls for civil and state action.
In response to the tragedy, the provincial government approved an immediate security operation in the affected mountainous region, which has already resulted in four security personnel being injured and four suspected terrorists killed. To address the resulting civil unrest, a high-level committee led by Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove has been established to engage with local tribal elders, civil society, and the families of victims. Concurrently, a massive public sit-in has entered its third consecutive day on Quetta’s Airport Road, with protesters demanding the immediate arrest of the perpetrators, the safe recovery of the abducted individuals, and a permanent upgrade to local security frameworks.
During high-level consultations chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, provincial leadership paid tribute to the bravery of the Hanna Urak residents who actively resisted the attackers. Bugti emphasized that combating terrorism remains a collective national challenge that requires unyielding unity and seamless coordination between federal and provincial law enforcement arms. Moving forward, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Governor Mandokhail have committed to decisive federal-provincial state measures aimed at restoring peace, upgrading regional defense systems, and providing comprehensive compensation packages to the affected families.
