Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has stated that public interest and demand for the newly introduced eco-friendly green transport network are surging rapidly across the province. Reflecting on the initial phases of the rollout, she emphasized that the modern transport infrastructure has successfully introduced an environmentally conscious revolution in urban and regional commuting, shifting public preference toward clean energy transit options.
The statements follow Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s recent operational expansion of the electric bus service into six additional districts—including Attock, Bhakkar, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Khanewal, and Khushab. The provincial government’s long-term master plan aims to deploy a comprehensive fleet of 5,000 electric buses over the next five years, connecting major divisions and small tehsils alike. Crucially, Bukhari noted that the public transit initiative has not only modernized daily travel but has also established local manufacturing capability, with domestic assembly plants now rolling out units locally.
According to the provincial transport department, the highly subsidized fare structure—set at a flat rate of just Rs 20 per trip—remains a major catalyst for the soaring demand. The affordable pricing model has significantly eased financial burdens for working professionals, students, and low-income groups, with an exceptionally high volume of female commuters utilizing the secure facilities daily. As the government prepares to receive hundreds of additional eco-friendly units from collaborative supply lines, regional teams are fast-tracking the construction of dedicated, high-capacity charging depots to support the rapid scaling of the green network.
