In a sharp escalation of territorial friction in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, a group of militant Israeli settlers has forcibly seized a Palestinian home that was actively under construction. The incident has triggered deep alarm among local residents in the village of Jalud, who fear the takeover establishes a dangerous precedent that could allow neighboring Palestinian properties to suffer the exact same fate, further entrenching illegal outposts deeper into their community.
The targeted property belongs to Mohammad Salameh, a Palestinian resident who was constructing the two-storey house for his family, intended as a home for his recently engaged son to start married life. However, construction stalled following the outbreak of the Gaza war in 2023 due to severe financial strains and lack of employment. Seizing the opportunity before completion, at least six extremist Jewish settlers occupied the structure, with verified video footage showing them moving around freely on the roof while appeals by the family to the Israeli military and local police yielded zero assistance.
Local administrators highlight that the incident marks a severe shift in tactics, moving from land destruction to direct residential encroachment. Raed Al Haj Mohammad, head of the Jalud village council, noted that the occupiers have now advanced to within just 100 meters of the last inhabited house in the village.
